Installing and setting up RDP wrapper

Now that we have the software downloaded and extracted we can start installing it.

  1. Open the Folder containing the extracted files
  2. Double click on install.bat
    1. You will see a command prompt window appear while it installs
  3. Select RDPConf to bring up the configuration application for the Windows 10 Home remote desktop software
    1. Select Enable Remote Desktop Protocol
    2. Under Security Mode choose Default Authentication
    3. The rest of the settings can be left as is unless you need to change the default port from 3389
  4. Now press OK to save your settings
  5. Double click on update.bat file to permanently set the configuration settings
    1. You can use RDPConf to check each of the Diagnostics and make sure the following match:
      1. Wrapper state: Installed
      2. Service sate: Running
      3. Listener state: Listening
    2. Once you’ve confirmed the above your RDP is ready and you can use RDPCheck to test it!

Connecting to your Windows 10 Home computer remotely

Now that you are ready to accept incoming RDP connection on your Windows 10 Home computer we need test it from the outside. You may need to do some port forwarding on your router for port 3389 and set a static IP on your Windows 10 Home computer or laptop. Once you’ve done the port forwarding and static IP settings follow these steps to check the connection.

  1. Use a 4G connection from your phone to get your PC/laptop online
  2. On Windows click on Start and type in mstsc.exe in the search field and open the application
